Mission:
Banks County Transit is the public transportation service in Banks. This service is available to all residents of Banks County. With our transit service, our residents are better able to travel to doctor’s appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies and other important business both within and outside of Banks County.

Services:

How to Schedule A Ride:

Banks County Transit operates on an advanced reservation basis.  To schedule a trip call 706-677-1835 between 8am and 4pm Monday through Friday at least 24 hours before your requested trip.

Accessible Service:

Wheelchair –accessible service is available.   When you call to schedule your trip, please let us know of any assistance you may need in boarding or disembarking from the vehicle.  For the safety of all the passengers, our policy requires that wheelchairs be secured to the vehicle.     Personal care attendants and service animals accompanying individuals with disabilities are permitted free of charge.     Persons using respirators and portable oxygen are welcome.

Drivers are permitted to assist passengers from door to door.  Drivers are not allowed to enter passenger’s homes.

Where Can I Ride To

Transportation is available throughout Banks County and including Homer, Lula, Commerce, Cornelia, Demorest, Athens, Gainesville, Toccoa, Royston, Jefferson.

Fare:

The fare for the service depends on the distance of your trip.  The charge for each one way trip is
$3.00     Homer, Lula, Within Banks County
$4.00     Commerce, Cornelia, Demorest
$8.00     Athens, Gainesville, Toccoa, Royston, Jefferson
 
Rider will be charged an additional on way trip fare after 1 hour of waiting.  Additional stops will be $1.00 per stop.  Please have exact fare when boarding.  Drivers are not able to make change.   Personal Care Attendants may accompany rider free of charge.   Additional companions will be charged the regular fare.

Holiday Schedule:

Banks County Transit services do not operate on the following days:
New Year’s Day
President’s day
Good Friday

 
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
 

Thanksgiving Day & Day after
Christmas Eve
Christmas Day & Day after

 

Passenger Policies: 
BE READY TO GO:  Please be ready to meet your bus at the curb a few minutes before your scheduled pick up time.

PRIORITY SEATING:  Please reserve the seats at the front of the bus for seniors and persons with disabilities.  

CANCELLATIONS:   If you will be unable or choose not to take your scheduled trip, please contact us to cancel as soon as possible, at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled pickup time.   No-shows waste resources which could be otherwise used to transport others.  Persons who abuse this are subject to trip charge, service cancellation charges.

PETS:     Pets are not permitted on board Banks County Transit vehicles

PACKAGES:   Passengers may carry packages as long as they are able to carry them.  Drivers are not required to assist with packages.

LOST AND FOUND:   Any items left on board the bus will be taken to the office before the next time the vehicle is put in service.   To claim items, call our office at 706-677-1835.

MUSIC:   Music may only be played if headphones are used and the volume is set low enough not to disturb other passengers.

NO EATING, DRINKING OR SMOKING:  However, food and beverages may be carried on board if securely closed in spill-proof containers.

Help Us Keep You Safe: 
Safety is our drivers’ top priority.  Your driver’s  full attention needs to be on driving.  Please do not talk with the driver while the vehicle is in motion.   Likewise drivers are not to enter your home and are not required to carry packages.
